Advocacy

Support for nutrition is not only good public policy, it is good politics.

Our leading principles:

  • Amplify the contribution of nutrition and dietetics practitioners and expand workforce capacity and capability

  • Integrate research, professional development, technology and practice to stimulate innovation and discovery

  • Collaborate to solve the greatest food and nutrition challenges now and in the future

  • Focus on system-wide impact across the food, well-being and health care sectors

  • Have a global impact in eliminating all forms of malnutrition.

Public Policy

AZAND Supports Public Policy efforts at both the federal and state level.

Federal

The Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics is committed to improving the nation’s health and advancing the profession through research, education, and advocacy. Advocacy is critical to achieving the mission, vision, goals, and strategies outlined in the Academy Strategic Plan.

Public policy significantly influences and forms the Academy’s public image and that of the dietetics profession.

State

State governments play a vital role in creating and implementing policies that serve and protect the public. AZAND is your advocate in public policy at the state level to ensure the health and safety of the public; to make sure your voice is heard.

Take Action

We have the ability and responsibility to urge consumers and lawmakers to learn about the positive role nutrition plays in healthy lifestyles and in disease management and treatment. For both individuals and society, the benefits of eating right and exercising include improved quality of life and lower healthcare costs.

Your activism is extremely important to the success of our national and state agenda – and there are numerous ways to get involved.
